South Win At Manalapan

Sophomore Austin Markmann pitched five shutout innings of two-hit ball and the Eagles (1-0, 1-0) blanked the Braves (0-1, 0-1) to win their season-opener. Junior Zach deRocco went 2-for-2 with four RBI, while junior Nolan Pereless scored two runs and stole three bases. Sophomore Dan Mishlen pitched the final two innings for Middletown South and did not allow a hit.

The team over all is young with both new and returning juniors as well as experienced senior starters. This win proves South will be competitive this season and will surprise some teams in the always tough A North. The coach points to the sophomore class as a big time strength of the of the program.Sophomores who made the varsity squad as well as those that just missed the cut and who will be gaining valuable experience at the JV level proves this point. There may be some bumps in the road this year but the program will be a force for the next few years.
